I found out about deviantART about 9 years ago and it instantly drawn me to it.
A year later I started art school, I was 15 and had no idea what I'm doing. While browsing dA I always saw wonderful pieces of art that were way beyond me and that's also the reason why I didn't create an account till the end of my first school year. The reason why I created my account was to get more input about my work. School was fine but not enough to make me see all of my mistakes and I have to say that it was a good choice. Later I dropped out of art school so all I learned after I learned by myself.
This site and all of its amazing artists pushed me to get better, my expectations of myself got higher and higher because of you.
When I started doing digital art I didn't have a tablet...just a PC mouse...but hey I wanted to do digital drawings and paintings, so I did.
I'm still improving myself, not even close to what I want to be.
Mathias was my first semi realistic painting that I truly was happy with.
This painting is from the period I didn't have a tablet. It took me 2 weeks but I did it, I finished it! This painting is the one I'm most proud of. Every dragon scale drawn separately, shaded separately with a PC mouse.
I drew this as a part of Draw This Again meme. It was fun and an eyeopener at once. I could see my improvement, something that wasn't noticeable to me before.
Sleeping Sun is a speedpaint that turned out completely different of what I was going for. It made me feel confident because I could turn a black blob on a grey background into something colorful and beautiful. That's why speedpaints are good. It's almost like they can liberate you from boundaries you have in your head.
My first speedpaint. No sketch and no idea what to draw. The only thing I was sure I wanted to put in this painting was a shark because I haven't drawn one since kindergarten.
Aurora Spirit was the first painting I finished with a tablet. Needles to say I saw very proud of it. I even made a print and hung it in my living room.
First original character. It was done in PSCS6 a program that to be honest is still a bit of a mystery to me. We worked in PS on my art school a tiny little bit, not enough to master so I stopped using it and went to using SAI which is really easy and more for beginners. One day I wanted to test myself and drew this.
I love this painting because of the facial expression. Little Red all grown up, being a hunter in the snow.
I went to visit my family and didn't bring my tablet with me. Luckily I've been down this tabletless road before and SAI had a lineart layer option.
This one was chosen because it shows how I see winter perfectly and because it was my first attempt at such type of art.
This one I'm proud of because it's the first painting I did on just one layer. It took some time and nerves but it got finished.
I suppose all the drawings/paintings I chose here are my first something. They show that if you have willpower and some nerves you can do anything even if it's your first time.
So, happy birthday dA, carry on and inspire more generations to do their best!
